What to expect during and after a permanent lip blushing treatment

Looking to accentuate your lips? Our Fort Worth permanent lip blushing cosmetic treatment can give your lips a softer, more natural look. It can also add color and definition to your lips.

Permanent lip blushing treatment is not like applying regular lipstick. The pigment is placed much deeper into the skin so it will last a lot longer. And because of that, the color will be more natural-looking as well.

If you're thinking about getting lip blushing, it's important to understand what the treatment entails and what you can expect from it. Here's what you need to know.

Before the procedure

Before you get lip blushing, you'll need to consult with a cosmetic professional. They will assess your lips and discuss your goals for the treatment.

During this time, you may also ask for a quotation. Once you've decided to go ahead with the procedure, your technician will provide you with before and aftercare instructions.

If you already have an appointment, the esthetician will walk you through what to expect and how to prepare for the treatment. These include:

  • You cannot receive lip fillers at least two weeks before your procedure.
  • If you have a cold sore on your lips, make sure to take antiviral medication at least 4 days before the procedure to prevent the cold sore from resurfacing.
  • No caffeinated products 8 hours before
  • No blood-thinning products 72 hours before (ibuprofen or aspirin)
  • No alcohol for 24 hours before

The procedure

Lip blushing usually takes around one to two hours to complete. During the treatment, your technician will use a very fine needle to carefully deposit the pigment into your lips.

Depending on the color of your choice, your technician will either use a single color or mix colors to create the perfect shade for you. Once they're finished, they'll go over your lips with a numbing agent to help reduce any discomfort.

They will continue by outlining your lips and then fill them in. The pigments used in lip blushing are usually lighter than those used in regular tattooing. That's because they're meant to create a more natural look.

After the Procedure

After your treatment, here are some things to expect:

  • Day 1 — Your lips might be swollen and tender.
  • Days 2-5 — A ruby red color will start to surface and the swelling should go down.
  • Days 5-6 — The color starts to look orange. This is because your lips are exfoliating and healing.
  • Days 7-20 — The true color from the lip blushing will start to show and the lips will continue to heal.

This treatment can last for 2 whole years before it fades completely. Some people get a color booster 14 months after their treatment to make the color last longer.

However, everyone’s skin is different so it might not last as long for some people. Also, frequent smoking or alcohol drinking might cause the pigment to fade faster.

To make the color last longer, it is best to avoid any products that can cause your lips to exfoliate such as retinoids, glycolic acids, exfoliating balms, and lipsticks with drying ingredients.

One of the best ways to maintain the color is to use a lip product with SPF, such as chapstick, lip balm, lip gloss, and moisturizing lip tint.
